Offering a supportive group environment for hard of hearing individuals by providing a step-by-step approach to coping with hearing loss and improving communication skills in social settings. Providing information about the physical and technical aspects of hearing loss.
Counselling
General Counselling Services
Providing personal counselling and guidance around issues related to hearing loss.
Employment Services
Providing career counselling, job search skills training, job lead referrals to help individuals find and maintain employment. Working with employers to ensure workplace accessibility for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing employees.
Hearing Care Counselling
Providing communication and hearing care support services to enable people with acquired hearing loss to carry out daily living activities independently, safely and with reduced communication difficulties. Priority given to people 55 years and older.
Educational Support Services
Providing note takers and interpreters to make the classroom and educational materials accessible to post secondary part-time students who are deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. This service is coordinated through our Provincial Office.
Interpreter Services
Providing a booking service to assign highly qualified American Sign Language interpreters for medical, legal, employment, social service and personal business appointments.
Education
Sign Language Services
Teaching American Sign Language (ASL) classes using the Signing Naturally curriculum with qualified Deaf teachers.
Sales
Communication Devices
Marketing devices which promote better communication, i.e., TTYs, amplification systems, signalling devices, etc.
Hearing Aid Battery Sales
Maintain inventory of Activair (Duracell) #675 HPX, #312 HPX, and #13 HPX; Proline (Rayovac) #312A and #H13A hearing aid batteries.

Information Services
Resource Library
The Kingston office has an extensive library of books, magazines, articles, pamphlets and videotapes on subject matter related to deafness, hearing loss and sign language. A library computer provides access to the CHS Website and Internet. Anyone may use the library facilities but only CHS members have lending privileges.
Public Education
Participate in health fairs, displays, workshops, and presentations to raise consumer and public awareness of issues related to deafness and hearing loss.
Volunteer Program
Friendly Hearing Help Visitors
To provide residents in local long-term care facilities with friendly visits, assisting these residents with their hearing aids and communication needs. Basic training is given in hearing aid maintenance and trouble-shooting (including cleaning and changing batteries); communication strategies; and sensitivity to the issues and impact of hearing loss in the elderly.
Special Events
To assist the Special Events Co-ordinator with tasks related to special and fundraising events for the purpose of raising the profile of The Canadian Hearing Society and to raise funds to support services.
Administrative Support
To assist front office staff with reception duties, telephone and TTY calls, computer work, filing and information services.
