General Support ServicesThe Canadian Hearing Society Counsellors are specially trained to understand the unique needs of deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people. Direct services include counselling, special assistance with forms, applications and phone calls, help with devices and advocacy. Employment ServicesAs part of our counselling services, The Canadian Hearing Society provides job preparation and consultant services to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people and support employers. We provide assistance to clients with resume preparation and referral to training programs. We provide information concerning ways to communicate on the job and communication devices that allow accessibility. Hearing Care Counselling Program (HCCP)HCCP provides communication and hearing care support services to enable people with acquired hearing loss to carry out daily living activities independently, safely and with reduced communication difficulties. Priority is given to people aged 55 years and older. Ontario Interpreting Services (OIS)Providing a booking service to access professional American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signe quebecoise (LSQ) interpreters in the following setting: medical, legal, employment, social services or personal business. CONNECT Counselling ServicesThis program is specialized to meet the counselling needs of Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals. CONNECT offers accessible counselling and case management services to increase client potential in managing challenging situations more effectively. Communication Devices ProgramThere are many devices available to assist deaf, deafened and hard of hearing people in their daily living. Visit our online store. CHS is a registered vendor under the Assistive Device Program (ADP) through the Ministry of Health. Sign Language ServicesAmerican Sign Language classes including grammar and culture are offered to the general public. Courses include a video and workbook as well as classroom instruction. Deaf / Blind IntervenorDeaf-Blind Services is a specialized program providing Intervening services for individuals who have a complete or partial loss of both vision and hearing such that neither of these senses can compensate for the impairment of the other. Intervenors provide clear and accurate communications to Deaf-Blind clients to assist them to participate fully in all aspects of daily and community living while promoting independence. Intervention is available for a variety of settings, including medical, legal, education, social services and personal Business. |
