HEALTH CARE

Audiology

  • Provides deaf, deafened, hard of hearing and hearing adults with quality hearing health care, including hearing testing and other advanced diagnostic tests, hearing aid evaluations, and assessment of effectiveness of new or currently worn amplification.
  • Provides recommendations and programs to assist clients and their families in communicating effectively and living with hearing loss.
  • Provides counselling and information on hearing loss prevention.

Hearing Help Classes

Offering a supportive group environment for hard of hearing individuals by providing a step by step approach to coping with hearing loss and improving communication skills in business and social settings. Providing information about the physical and technical aspects of hearing loss. This class is for individuals that are 16 years and up.

COUNSELLING

CONNECT Counselling

The community mental health program of CHS is a program specialized to meet the mental health needs of deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals of all ages.

General Support Services (GSS)

A specialized, accessible, supportive social services program for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing consumers, ages 16 and up, who are unable to access community resources and have a range of needs for assistance in order to be able to live successfully and independently in the community.

Employment Services

Provides career counselling, job search skills training, job lead referrals to help individuals find and maintain employment. Working with employers to ensure work place accessibility for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing employees.

An Employment Resource Centre is available, which provides access to the Internet, job postings, computer programs such as WordPerfect, a Resume Writer, a Fax machine to send out resumes, a TTY and voice phone to call employers, and many more resources

Hearing Care Counselling
(Formerly Seniors' Outreach Program)

Providing communication and hearing care support services to enable people with acquired hearing loss to carry out daily living activities independently, safely and with reduced communication difficulties. Priority given to people 55 years and older.

INTERPRETING SERVICES

Ontario Interpreting Services
Providing a booking service to access highly qualified American Sign Language interpreters. If you would like to book an interpreter in Toronto Region, contact one of the booking coordinators (
Jeremy Hill) to make a request for the services needed.

EDUCATION

Literacy & Basic Skills Program
Provides training in literacy and basic skills for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals with limited English or American Sign Language (ASL). If you are interested in enrolling in this service, please contact one of the following and check The Impact-ASL Program website:

Sign Language Classes
American Sign Language (ASL) classes are available for those interested in learning the language if the deaf in North America. See our on-line class schedule and/or registration information(PDF format).

Training Sign Language Instructors
The Canadian Hearing Society (CHS) acknowledges that Deaf people have their own culture and language, and are best suited to teach ASL. Therefore, we recruit and train Deaf people who are ASL signers and have a Deaf identity.

  • We can offer competitive videoconferencing room rentals.

    • Financial Services Meet

    • North Board Room, South Board Room, and Lunch Room – up to 75 people

Bridging and Gateway Services

  • A link between ISDN and IP videoconferencing so you can call any one in the world.
  • The ability to call up to 11 sites for one meeting (a multi-point call).
