CHS Waterloo services – what we do?!

Employment Services:

  • We Offer the Job Seeker:

    • An employment skills program geared toward people who are deaf, deafened and hard of hearing.
    • Individualized employment action plans – including career planning, skills assessment, job market research, workshops, resume writing, interview skills and on-the-job support.
    • Job development.
    • Free use of:  internet, fax, phone, TTY and job search resources. 

    We Offer the Employee:

    • Work-related Communication device info.
    • Advice regarding accommodations in the workplace.
    • Self-advocacy and self-disclosure information and support.
    • Human Rights advice and advocacy. 

    We Offer the Employer: 

    • Improved accessibility for employees in the workplace with hearing loss by providing:
    • Advice and support during the interview, hiring and training process
    • Information packages
    • Workplace communication assessments  (fees may apply)
    • Awareness training  (fees may apply)
    • Ongoing support – even after an employee is hired

CONNECT Counselling Services

Provides wellness information, support, counselling, case management, as well as mental health and addiction services to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing consumers and their families and offers extended support, education, advocacy and counselling to families of deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents.

General Support Services

Provides personal counselling and guidance with daily living activities to deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals and their families.

Hearing Care Counselling Program

Provides communication and hearing care support services to enable older adults with acquired hearing loss to carry out daily living activities independently, safely, and with reduced communication difficulties.

Ontario Interpreting Services:

Increases accessibility by providing professional sign language interpreters in a variety of settings.

Corporate Communications:

  • Raises consumer and public awareness of issues related to deafness and hearing loss.
  • Provides information to the government and to the public in support of projects that promote the rights of deaf, deafened and hard of hearing individuals.
  • Develops information resources to meet consumer needs.
  • The Hickman Community Resource Centre offers information on a variety of topics related to hearing loss and deafness, communication and deaf culture.

Sign Language Services

Provides American Sign Language (ASL) classes and training of sign language instructors. Classes are offered in co-operation with Conestoga College at college locations.

Communication Devices Program

Provides consultations, sales and information about a full range of assistive devices including TTYs, amplified telephones, alerting/signaling devices and assistive/personal listening devices.
